Physician Assistants
A Physician
Assistant (PA) is a health professional licensed
to practice medicine with physician supervision.
PAs are nationally board certified, as well as
licensed in the state in which they practice. In
the State of Massachusetts PAs are able to
diagnose and treat illnesses and prescribe
medications. At Hand Surgery PC the PA's work
closely with the physicians in the care of their
patients. The Physician Assistants have a
special interest and training in conditions of
the hand and upper extremity. Their role at HSPC
includes obtaining a history and performing a
physical examination, casting, suturing,
performing nerve conduction studies, prescribing
medications and giving injections. Working
closely with the physicians, the PAs provide
